I began climbing in mid December 1987 Tajumulco climbing the volcano, the highest mountain in Guatemala and Central America with its 4.220 meters above sea level, located in the department of San Marcos.

Even to this day remains one of the most special moments of my life, because those moments were the beginning of my passion for climbing, was the cause in me to always look for new goals ... new heights, trying to know myself, to strive always for excellence in my life. Obviously I have a difficult time and complicated, as anyone, but the mountain has shown me the best way to deal with a good face.

In the last thirty years the world has been characterized for having a severe socioeconomic crisis and the struggle for human needs. There is more hunger, more injustice. Life has lost meaning.

Human beings are being erased from our eyes the images of the beauty of a cold dawn in the mountains, a sky sparkling with bright stars ... of a cliff covered with icy cold snow or frost.

Only speaks to the value of money, the amount of external debt ... of the need to be someone important. What place does the useless in our world? We seek only the sound of silver, the roar of the engines ...

However, what distinguishes men and women of simian Gross is the reflective capacity to contemplate, to admire the beauty, sharing, self-introduced to see and feel how it's similar to the rock, to assess the flower and how much is separated from it. Only man is capable of climbing a steep path and see, feel more than land. Only women and men are able to pass on a cold surface and feel the warmth of friendship ...

The human being is more than "fish" which is at sea, as I said a poet. At this time the useless utilitarian has the full weight of the spiritual, of spontaneity, of freedom, of creative ...

When the eyes are enraptured by the beautiful scenery of Guatemala or any other country, from one of the summits of volcanoes, and when the tired muscles cramps, you're tempted to drive you to the comfortable couch, good love, or television. But if you react and endure the sweat and are able to pass thirst and fatigue do not let your ascent and the height dominate the landscape ... If you, your effort and enthusiasm has swept the partner to break ties and have forgotten what is useful, paid, how comfortable is that you are in the vein of the person, free, builder of a world of light and free which will only human warmth, color and flavor to life.

Not that that makes life easier: the electric light, the car ... and what the men and women conquer their intelligence is not to be admired and used, but you use things without being tied to them, no slave. That nests only inside the human being and energizes the spirit, which gives possibility of him or her. Without knowing all there is. Humans are the only one who can interpret a harmonious symphony.

The conquest of the useless is the discovery and use of what is around us non-exploitation, or profit, without desire of hoarding, and abuse. When immersed in the landscape, is the volcano, the cliffs, jungle or frozen rock, we identify with the roots of humanity emerged and attracted like a magnet, by God, and out of the cave disputed the bear, plays with intelligence will and creation.

After undertaking, at dawn, the climb becomes useless to women and men, exhausted, but more fraternal, more human, to know how much wealth of creativity in us. Do not forget it: if we conquer the useless today, tomorrow we will conquer galaxies.
